Project Description
Why News Matters is a $6 million grantmaking program of the Robert R. McCormick Foundation designed to enhance news literacy skills and programs in Chicago. Among the Foundation’s goals is to drive awareness of news literacy (a.k.a. the ability to use critical thinking skills to judge the reliability and credibility of news reports and information sources). Dawn Design Studios was selected to help refine its brand, create a digital marketing strategy and carry out the design and development of WhyNewsMatters.org.

Engaging Diverse Stakeholders
The initiative targets students, educators, parents, the general public and policymakers to be more actively engaged in news literacy as a means to civic engagement. Dawn Design Studios created an engaging website design with entry points for each of its audiences to ensure that visitors relevant information in just a few clicks.
Integrated Content Strategy
Ongoing content support for WhyNewsMatters.org includes aggregating news literacy content (articles, multimedia, resources, curriculum), as well as providing monthly coverage of news literacy events, programs and trainings in Chicago and nationally.
